Providing professional development to students: Entry-level global career experience

Presentation Description:

How can we help students early in their academic careers to develop professional competencies during an education abroad program?  How can exposing them to various global organizational settings in a low-stakes manner help them in their professional development journeys? The presenters will share examples of what this can look like, and how it can be done with the intent to build upon these entry-level global career experiences to subsequently facilitate more in-depth and challenging professional experiences for the students as part of their ongoing personal and career development.  

Learning Objectives:

  • By participating in this session, attendees will be able to build appropriate learning activities in education abroad programs for students seeking professional development early in their academic careers.
  • During our presentation, attendees will be asked to collaborate in small groups to create a program plan that incorporates professional development learning activities for students appropriate for early career exploration.
  • As a result of participating in this session, attendees will be able to incorporate new global programs at their institutions with a focus on professional experience for early career students.
