Scholar advisors face multiple challenges related to processing immigration benefits for their populations post-presidential election cycles, regardless of the outcome. We will delve into the complexities of immigration processes for scholars, particularly focusing on the H and O non-immigrant visa categories, as well as the Employment-Based (EB) visa processing challenges, including visa retrogression. The session will highlight the barriers to mobility and the support systems necessary for fostering a thriving international scholar community.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the impact of current trends in administration on H, O, and EB visa processing, including increased scrutiny, additional Requests for Evidence (RFEs), visa retrogression and slower processing times.
  • Anticipating RFEs: Highlight current trends and use case studies to highlight success. Administrative Preparedness: Prepare other departments on campus with regards to trending issues Engagement with Government Officials with an eye towards a changing in administration in 2025.
  • Case Studies and Best Practices Share lessons learned from previous experiences, emphasizing strategies that proved effective in mitigating delays and enhancing the overall success rate of visa applications.
