Building Blocks of COIL

Presentation Description:

Utilizing building blocks of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) ensures success and sustainability of COIL initiatives. With insights from UNC-Chapel Hill, participants explore examples and best practices of how to introduce or strengthen COIL programs through identifying key building blocks such as institutional strategies, existing partnerships, campus stakeholders, virtual exchange networks, resources, and technology.

From UT Knoxville, the session highlights effective engagement with a campus partner through a collaborative workshop between the Center for Global Engagement and Division of Student Success. The workshop helps students align COIL projects with NACE Career-Readiness competencies, offering practical guidance on integrating career readiness into COIL initiatives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to identify and leverage institutional and external resources, providing a barrier-free approach to global learning and preparing students for a connected world.
  • Participants will be able to apply ideas to determining low- to high- effort/cost for supporting COIL on their campuses.
  • Participants will be able to identify areas of potential collaboration on their campuses
